Today (08.07.2025) marked the official kick-off of the newly established ISO - International Organization for Standardization TC 299 WG 12, working on the development of ISO/AWI 25785-1.
The goal: To define safety requirements for a new class of industrial mobile robots — including humanoids and other form factors that require active control to maintain stability.
👥 Federico Vicentini / Boston Dynamics serves as the Convenor of WG 12, supported by a strong project leadership team: Kevin R. / Agility Robotics and Carole Strait Franklin / A3 - Association for Advancing Automation
Together, we’re ready to welcome global experts to contribute to this important work.
⚠️ The challenge is significant: the industry needs a credible and accountable safety reference for this exciting and fast-evolving technology.
To close the day, we had the chance to visit the Robotics & AI Institute in Boston - an inspiring setting that provided fresh insights and perspectives.
📆 The next two days are packed with a full agenda, technical discussions, and international collaboration.
👉 Stay tuned for updates as we shape the future of robotics safety.
I also met Nicolai Ensslen from Synapticon, who was last week one one of the participants of the "Delegationsreise nach China".
Of course, the topic of safety was also omnipresent. Because safety is our top priority!
